Renée Pigeon

Renée Pigeon (Editorial Board Member) is Professor of English at California State University, San Bernardino, where she has taught since 1990. She received her Ph.D. from UCLA in 1988. Her publications include articles on Sidney, Shakespeare, and early modern prose fiction, and her long-standing interest in adaptation of one kind or another has led her to write about cinematic portrayals of Elizabeth I. Prof. Pigeon also published a critical edition of a seventeenth-century political romance, Theophania, Or Several Modern Histories Represented by Way of Romance (Dovehouse 1999), a roman à clef loosely based on Sidney’s The Countess of Pembroke’s Arcadia. Her academic interests include adaptation studies, cinematic Shakespeare, and crime fiction, and she regularly teaches courses focused on those areas. She is a past president of the Renaissance Conference of Southern California.
